Police said two people were pronounced dead at the scene and a man in his 20s was transported to a hospital in serious condition.

Several people living in this area say the apartment building and block have been a hotspot for crimes.

Local activist and pastor Donovan Price arrived on scene shortly after the shooting ... and explained how devastating this as he says at least one of the victims is a teenager.

"A child has been killed and the scene seems to stretch all three floors of the building," Pastor Price said. "It seems to be quite a horrific scene. We'll just see how it plays out, but it's just tragic to happen on a school day including a child in the morning and to wake up to this, but it's a reality. It's a Chicago reality."

Further details were not immediately available.
