Man accused of ordering teen to kill USPS letter carrier in Chicago, prosecutors say
CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man is now also facing charges after a teen pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a U.S. Postal Service worker in Chicago in 2024, officials said.

Prosecutors say the suspect orchestrated the murder and threatened the teen to do it.

The teen who pleaded guilty in June was sentenced in July to five years in juvenile detention.
USPS letter carrier Octavia Redmond, 48, was killed in July 2024 while she was delivering mail in West Pullman.
The teenage boy who was charged in her murder was arrested in Iowa.
Police said the juvenile got out of a stolen vehicle and shot her multiple times at close range.

On Wednesday, Chicago police announced new charges in the murder case.
Lyndell Deyoung, 35, of Chicago is now facing two felony counts, including first-degree murder, CPD said.
Deyoung was arrested Monday in Chicago after being identified as a suspect who participated in Redmond's murder.
In court Wednesday, prosecutors accused the man of orchestrating the fatal shooting and threatening a teenage boy to carry out the murder.
Deyoung was ordered to be held in custody pending his trial.
He is due back in court Sept. 17.
