The shooting happened at about 7:25 a.m. outside a home in the 300-block of East 117th Street in West Pullman, police said.

A man, 50, was outside with his dog when the shooter allegedly approached in a red car.

Police said the suspect got out of the car, shot the man and the dog and drove off.

The man was shot in the stomach and in the buttocks. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and is expected to be OK.

The dog was shot in the shoulder and was also expected to be OK.

Nobody is in custody.

Neighbors said the man's family just moved in weeks ago.

Adrian Cervantes said there was a loud confrontation before gunfire.

"As soon as I hear them, I started saying a prayer," Cervantes said. "Arguing, discussion, kind of like, 'Are you OK? Leave him alone! That's enough. That's enough.'"

He said he was in his kitchen when he heard gunshots.

"Kids screaming, I mean, what can I do? What am I able to do? What is or isn't in my power that I can simply to do help? But, it's just, there was nothing I can do," Cervantes said. "I wish them the best, a speedy recovery. Hopefully, this doesn't happen again in any situation because it's alarming. It's frustrating."
