Lanes reopen after large semi fire on Stevenson Expressway on Chicago's SW Side: state police

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A large semitrailer fire tied up traffic on the Stevenson Expressway Tuesday afternoon.

Cell phone video showed the blaze on southbound Interstate 55, just north of Damen Avenue, on Chicago's Southwest Side, just after 3 p.m.

The front of the truck was up in flames, sending heavy black smoke into the air.

Illinois State Police said no one is injured.

At one point, all lanes were shut down while cleanup efforts are underway.

One lane reopened after 4 p.m., but the fire flared back up again about 4:40 p.m., extending lane closures, police said.

All lanes reopened about 6 p.m.
