Man stabbed to death at CTA station in the Loop, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was stabbed to death at a downtown CTA train station early Saturday morning, Chicago police said.

Police said officers responded to an emergency medical services call at the Loop station at Clark and Lake streets just before 2:30 a.m.

There, officers found an unresponsive 37-year-old man who had suffered puncture wounds to his chest and abdomen.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials did not immediately say whether the stabbing happened on a train or the station's platform.

But at 3:25 a.m., the CTA issued an alert, saying that Blue Line trains were delayed due to police activity near the station.

Blue Line trains were operating on the same track between Grand Avenue and LaSalle Street, the CTA said.

In another message issued at 5:48 a.m., the CTA said normal service and boarding had resumed.

What led up to the stabbing was not immediately clear.

Area detectives are investigating, and no one is in custody.
