Two vehicles were heading southbound on Somonauk Road, just south of Chicago Road, in Somonauk Township, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said one of the drivers suffered a major medical emergency, causing his vehicle to rear-end the other vehicle. The driver who suffered the emergency then veered into a ditch on the east side of the roadway and spun.

The Somonauk Fire Department transported the driver to Northwestern Valley West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said. His identity has not yet been released.

The other driver was not injured.

Further information was not immediately available.
