Chicago man who drowned in Lake Michigan near 'Playpen' identified

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man who died after being pulled from the waters of Lake Michigan near the "Playpen" has been identified.

The drowning incident happened just after 4 p.m. Thursday near the 800 block of North Lake Shore Drive, in area of the lake near Ohio Street Beach downtown.

Police said a 39-year-old man was recovered from the water by a marine unit and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He later died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office on Friday identified the man as Justin Kramarczyk, 39, of Chicago. His cause of death was an accidental drowning.
