An Interview with Christy Martin
Legendary boxer Christy Salters Martin joined Warner and Chiaverini to talk about her groundbreaking career, the new film "Christy" starring Sydney Sweeney and her advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.
Martin discussed why she wanted the movie to portray her life exactly as it happened - unembellished and truthful - in hopes of helping even one person avoid the danger she endured. She highlighted key messages the film communicates about domestic violence: how abuse escalates over time, the danger of isolation and why the most threatening moment for survivors is when they leave an abuser.
Martin also shared her support for the WINGS Program, the largest provider of domestic violence services in Illinois. WINGS offers safety planning, housing, counseling and resources and has an extraordinary record: 95% of survivors leaving their housing programs do not return to their abuser.
