Family seeks justice 1 month after 18-year-old hit, killed while delivering DoorDash in Chicago Lawn

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Despite security video showing the driver getting out of the SUV and leaving it behind with an injured passenger inside, police still have made no arrests in a deadly Chicago Lawn crash.

Damian Gomez's family is calling for swift justice as frustration mounts exactly one month later.

"So far, they haven't told me anything," said Claudia Torres, Gomez's mother.

Gomez's family on Tuesday returned to 63rd and Kedzie, where the 18-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run while delivering food for DoorDash on a bicycle.

"Ever since the accident, I don't really come around here because it's painful," Torres said.

Security video shows a red SUV crashing at the intersection after, police say, the driver ignored a traffic light in the early morning hours of April 5, hitting Gomez and another vehicle.

The driver is then seen getting out of the SUV and walking away from the scene. A woman, police say, was left in that SUV with critical injuries.

And still, no arrests have been made. Now, this intersection marks a family's pain and relentless journey for answers and justice.

"There's a lot of evidence. And, like I said, I'm just waiting for them to tell me that they captured the person. I know it's been so long, but I have faith that they'll do something about it," Torres said.

ABC7 reached out to Chicago police, who said, at this time, there are still no updates in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
