CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago firefighter who was working at a TV shoot smelled smoke and sprang into action, alerting two people inside their burning Hyde Park home.
Chicago Firefighter Michael Agostinelli was hired as a contractor by the TV show filming near 48th and Kimbark. He was working on set when a mansion just two houses down caught fire. Suptratik Guha and his wife had just moved into the home the day before.
"I don't remember how much time, but it was very, very quick," Guha said of the fire. The couple moved from New York to Chicago for work. Their home, which was built in 1927s, was being renovated when it caught fire.
Agostinelli ran in and got the Guhas out before calling 911.
"I know it wasn't part of the scene because the smell of smoke. That wasn't in the plan for the day," Agostinelli said.
Filming for the TV show didn't stop.
"It's just surreal that we do this every day, and it happens next to us," John Moncton, lighting specialist, said.
No one was injured.
"I cannot say enough about the firefighters. They were here promptly. They were so efficient. It was absolutely fantastic, their response," Guha said.
The investigation continues, but a blow torch may have been to blame.
