Young girl surprises dad with long-awaited news: 'Daddy, I am getting a heart!'

The emotional moment a young girl from Ohio told her dad she was going to get a long-awaited donor heart was captured in a heartwarming video.

Footage shared by Cleveland Clinic Children's shows Ava Cooper announcing the good news from her hospital bed, after a cardiologist whispers it in her ear.

"Hi daddy! I am getting a heart," Cooper said.

"It's the moment the 11-year-old and her family had been waiting more than 200 days in the hospital for," the clinic said in a statement.

According to the hospital, Cooper was born with multiple heart defects and had four open-heart surgeries by the time she turned five.

She was put on a transplant list in September 2024.

The successful surgery was completed in March and she was able to return home after several months in the hospital, and has since celebrated her 11th birthday, the Cleveland Clinic said.
