CHICAGO (WLS) -- Here's a quick back-to-school scam tip. School shopping is in full swing, and scammers are ready to cash in online.

The Better Business Bureau says families are expected to spend $38.8 billion this year, making shoppers a target.

Before you click on a deal, stop and check the website. Scammers can copy trusted brands to steal your money or personal information.

Check the web address carefully. Look for HTTPS and the lock symbol before entering payment or personal information.

Don't click deals in unexpected emails or texts. Go directly to the retailer's website instead.
