1 dead, 1 injured after wrong-way driver collides with semi; westbound I-80 shut down in Joliet: ISP

JOLIET, Ill. (WLS) -- One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a wrong-way crash in the south suburbs on Monday morning, Illinois State Police said.

ISP said troopers responded to the crash on westbound Interstate 80 in Joliet around 11:15 a.m.

A vehicle traveling in the wrong direction collided with a semi at Briggs Street, ISP said.

Two people were transported to local hospitals, where one of them was pronounced dead. Their identity was not immediately released.

The other person's condition was not immediately known.

The crash shut down westbound I-80, and traffic is being diverted to US-30.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
