
CHICAGO (WLS) -- People gathered on Tuesday to celebrate the signing of a new state law in Illinois.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed the "safe schools for all" bill on Friday.
It bans anyone from denying a child a free public education based on their citizenship or immigration status.
The law takes effect on Jan. 1.
