CHICAGO (WLS) -- There are calls Friday morning for U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros to resign.

Last week, charges against the so-called Broadview Six were dropped because of errors made within his office.

Transcripts of grand jury proceedings apparently showed misconduct among prosecutors.

Now, lieutenant governor and U.S. Senate candidate Juliana Stratton is calling for Boutros to step down.

"U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros has undermined the credibility of his office and should resign or be fired. As the Trump Administration repeatedly attempts to use the justice system as a means of political retaliation, it's more important than ever that professional standards are followed and the public can trust the charges and conduct coming from the U.S. Attorney's office," Stratton said in a statement.

Sources say Boutros is leading a criminal investigation into E. Jean Carroll, the former Elle magazine columnist who accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault.

Boutros issued a statement Thursday, saying "In light of wide-spread reporting and intense media and public interest into the E. Jean Carroll matter in New York, the Chicago U.S. Attorney's Office can confirm that it has not opened-and has never opened-a criminal investigation into E. Jean Carroll. Any claim to the contrary is categorically false."

Boutros also recently announced sweeping reforms to U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois.

The U.S. Attorney's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday afternoon.
