INDIANAPOLIS -- Lawmakers introduced part of "Hailey's Law" at the Indiana statehouse Monday.

Hailey Buzbee, 17, of Fishers, Indiana was found dead in Ohio last week, after being missing since early January.

Police believe she left home with a 39-year-old man she met through online gaming.

An Amber Alert was not issued for Buzbee because initially she was considered a runaway.

The man has been arrested but not charged directly with her death.

On Monday, her parents spoke in support of a change to a bill.

The change would require kids in Indiana age 16 and younger to have verified parental permission to open a social media account.

And data on how teens are using social media could not be shared and marketed.

"The internet and social media are the devil's and predators' playground, and it's on this front that we must fight. I understand the amendment as it stands today may not be in its final form. But, I beg of you, please do not let this opportunity slip away," father Beau Buzbee said.

The parents also support a change to another bill.

This change would expand the discretion police have to issue Amber Alerts when they believe a child is in danger and may have been enticed to leave home.
