SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar was laid to rest on Saturday following funeral services.
Family, friends and elected officials attended the memorial.
Visitors, including Edgar's family, also paid their respects Friday as he lay in state at the Illinois Capitol Building.
The former governor served two terms in the 1990s.
Edgar died last weekend at the age of 79 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
His memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church in Springfield.
His son and daughter spoke at the service, quoting the movie "It's A Wonderful Life."
Edgar's son said that "in true Jim Edgar style" they were giving him the last word, and a video played in which the former governor reflected on his life, saying he had "a good run."
