Man accused of setting woman on fire on CTA Blue Line train due in court Thursday

CHICAGO (WLS) -- There's a push for change in the judicial system following Lawrence Reed's latest arrest.

He's due in court Thursday in Cook County. He is accused of violating his curfew several times while on electronic monitoring, including the day a young woman was set on fire on the CTA Blue Line.

Before the CTA attack, Reed was accused of assaulting a hospital social worker in August. The Cook County State's Attorney office says they pushed for Reed to be held in jail then.

A judge released him on electronic monitoring. Despite his history with 72 arrests and eight felony convictions.

Reed faces a federal terrorism charge for the CTA attack.

There's now a push for improvements in the electronic monitoring system for when someone violates conditions of their release, like Reed is accused of doing.

He's due in court in Maywood Thursday morning.
