Man charged with murder in deadly multi-vehicle crash in Woodlawn, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 40-year-old man is facing murder and multiple attempted murder charges for a 2024 deadly crash in Woodlawn, police said.

The crash happened on May 2024 in the 6400 block of S. Cottage Grove Avenue, Chicago police said.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash; an SUV, a Volkswagen sedan and a Chevy SUV, police said.

The drivers of the SUV and Volkswagen were involved in a previous crash and were driving to the police station to make a report when they crashed with the Chevy, police said.

A 45-year-old woman was driving the Chevy. She was taken to the hospital where she died.

Fifteen months after the deadly crash, Markell Reeves, 40 was arrested and charged with murder.

He was arrested in Lansing on Monday, Chicago police said.

Reeves is facing eight felony charges related to murder, aggravated battery and attempted murder, police said.
