Driver killed, another injured in south suburban I-55 crash: officials

CHANNAHON, Ill. (WLS) -- One driver died and another is injured after a south suburban crash on Interstate 55 early Sunday morning, officials said.

Illinois State Police said troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes at mile marker 246 in Channahon just before 3:15 a.m.

The Will County Coroner's Office said one of the drivers, 26-year-old Bourbonnais woman Melissa Prosser, died at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Joliet.

The other driver was hospitalized for their injuries, ISP said. Their condition was not immediately known.

All lanes were closed until 8:40 a.m.

What led up to the crash was not immediately clear. ISP is investigating.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the crash.
