The crash happened on June 26 at about 7:32 a.m. in the 6700-block of Beckwith Road near Neenah Avenue, Morton Grove police said.

Police said Jonathan Friedman, 74 of Morton Grove, was walking when he was struck by a tan Chevy Equinox LT on Beckwith.

Friedman died at Lutheran General Hospital, less than an hour later after being found.

The Chevy was found abandoned about two blocks away from the scene, but nobody was inside.

At the time, a person of interest was taken into custody.

Last Wednesday, William Barkho of Niles appeared at the Skokie courthouse for arraignment. He entered a not guilty plea.

On Tuesday, he turned himself in to the Morton Grove police department.

Barkho was charged with failing to report a crash involving a death.

He is next due in court on Sept. 22 in Skokie.
