Pedestrian struck, killed in north suburban crash, Niles police say

NILES, Ill. (WLS) -- An 84-year-old was killed after being struck by an SUV on Tuesday, Niles police said.

Chopper 7 was over the scene at 7 a.m. showing as police shut down the 5600-block of Touhy Avenue in Niles.

Niles police said the crash happened at about 6:08 a.m.

A man, 84, was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle.

The victim was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he later died.

Video shows police investigating a black SUV with damage to the driver's side.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of Touhy Avenue were closed on Tuesday amid the investigation.
