Northwestern: Jackson Carsello (neck) 'feeling good overall'

Northwesternsaid Sunday that starting center Jackson Carsello returned to the team facility Saturday night and "is up and walking, feeling good overall."

Carsello had been transported to a local hospital Saturday after suffering a neck injury in the third quarter of the team's season-opening 34-18 win against South Dakota State in Evanston, Illinois.

Carsello's head was struck by another player's leg while blocking on a run play, and he remained on the field for several minutes. Medical personnel removed his shoulder pads and moved him onto a backboard as a precaution. He gave a thumbs-up as he was stretchered off the field and had movement in his extremities, the school said at the time.

In June, the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Carsello received an injunction that gave him an extra year of eligibility. He started the past two seasons and sued the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility, after redshirting in 2022 and practicing with the team in 2021 but not being deemed healthy enough to play.
