OSWEGO, Ill. (WLS) -- The man accused in a deadly stabbing at an Oswego Chick-Fil-A will remain in custody after appearing in court Friday.
Police said 19-year-old Darryl Lee Jr. of Kankakee broke into the restaurant in the 2700 block of Route 34 around 3 a.m. Wednesday and attacked a delivery driver with a hammer and knife, killing 52-year-old Tracey Land of Bridgeview.
A maintenance worker was later also stabbed, but he survived. He was able to subdue the suspect until police arrived, officials said.
Lee Jr. is facing 11 felony charges, including first-degree murder. A plea has not yet been made, officials said.
The Kendall County State's Attorney said Lee Jr. will be back in court next Thursday.
The surviving victim's mother was nearby during the second attack and tried to help. She spoke to ABC7 by phone anonymously on Wednesday.
"There were hitting each other," she said. "The guy got my son on the floor, so I got out of the car and I was trying to get him away from my son so he couldn't hit my son anymore."
When they arrived, police say a they found her son pinning the attacker down and they were able to take him into custody.
The Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force was activated to assist with the investigation and processing of the scene.
