5 hurt in hazmat incident, chemicals mixed inside swim school in Park Ridge, officials say

PARK RIDGE, Ill. (WLS) -- A mix of chemicals inside an indoor swim school sent five people to the hospital Thursday in the north suburbs, fire officials said.

The incident happened at the Goldfish Swim School on Northwest Highway in Park Ridge.

Fire officials say the chemicals combined to release gas in the air.

Four people were taken by ambulance to get checked out. A fifth person took themselves to the hospital, officials said.

The Park Ridge Fire Department said the people who got sick were a mix of parents, staff and kids.
