Mundelein police officer killed in motorcycle crash in McHenry, officials say

MUNDELEIN, Ill. (WLS) -- A Mundelein police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash in McHenry over the weekend, the department said Tuesday.

Mundelein police said the single-vehicle crash happened early Sunday near Charles J. Miller Parkway and McHenry Avenue.

Officer Paul Viduya Jr., the sole rider involved, died, police said.

The McHenry Police Department is investigating the crash.

"Officer Viduya dedicated his life to serving and protecting the Mundelein community. His unexpected passing is a heartbreaking loss for his family, friends, fellow officers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest easy, Officer Paul Viduya Jr. Your service, sacrifice, and commitment to your community will never be forgotten," Mundelein police said in a statement.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
