Pete Crow-Armstrong slugs 40th HR as Cubs fall to Marlins
Cubs slugger Pete Crow-Armstrong isn't slowing down in September, hitting his 40th home run of the season in Chicago's 10-3 loss Sunday to the Marlins in Miami.
Crow-Armstrong joined the Phillies'Kyle Schwarber (42) as the only players to reach the mark this season.
His game-tying drive to lead off the fifth inning traveled 403 feet, as he joined Billy Williams as the only Cubs left-handed hitters to hit 40 or more homers in a season. Williams hit 42 in 1970.
The last Cubs player to hit 40 homers in a season overall was Derrek Lee in 2005, when he slugged 46.
Crow-Armstrong also became the first player in Cubs history with 40 homers and 30 steals in a season and just the fourth at age 24 or younger to do that in MLB history, joining Ronald Acuna Jr., Alex Rodriguez and Jose Canseco.
Despite his home run, the Cubs couldn't complete the three-game sweep, as Javier Sanoja hit a two-run homer and Heriberto Hernandez added a solo shot to power Miami.
