Man charged after 2-year-old fatally shoots himself in Pullman home, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man is charged in connection with the death of a 2-year-old who shot himself after getting hold of a gun over the weekend.

Johnny Hughes, 31, is facing several charges, including child endangerment and possession of a firearm by a repeat offender.

Chicago police say the child shot himself inside a home on 104th and South Maryland streets on Sunday.

The child was rushed in critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital, where he later died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the boy as Jamonte Shaw.
