Person exposed to bat with rabies in Park Ridge

PARK RIDGE, Ill. (WLS) -- A rabid bat was recently found in suburban Park Ridge, and now the Illinois Department of Public Health says someone was exposed.

Animal control specialists removed the bat from the 1100 block of South Rose Avenue in Park Ridge on Tuesday.

The bat tested positive for rabies Wednesday, officials said. A person was exposed to the bat.

Cook County Animal Control is reminding people to not handle bats or other wild animals.

If you believe you've been exposed to rabies or bitten by a bat, you must seek medical care immediately.
