Chicago area ceremonies to mark 25 years since 9/11 attacks
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Remembrances are planned across the Chicago area as the nation marks 25 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Local leaders will come together at Navy Pier for a tribute ceremony Friday morning, while healing fieldshave been created so people to pay their respects.

Twenty-five years after the darkest day in modern American history, the Chicago area is pausing to reflect, mourn, and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
From solemn flag displays and bell-ringing ceremonies, communities across the area are coming together for a somber milestone.
Niles Fire Chief Patrick Maloney was with the Chicago Fire Department when the attacks happened, and spent 10 days at Ground Zero.
He remembers the range of emotions. He felt while in the smoldering wreckage of the towers and the importance of the moment in history.
"I brought my sons here. They remember when I responded. So I came her to tell the story to them so we could teach the next generation," Chief Maloney said.
Beyond Friday's ceremonies, there are also three healing fields displays in the Chicago area.
There are events throughout the suburbs as well. The Evanston Fire and Police departments will hold a memorial ceremony at Firefighters Park. That starts at 7:30 a.m.
Also at 7:30 a.m., the St. Charles Fire Department begins its ceremony at the department's memorial monument on Main Street.
Elgin will observe Patriot Day with a memorial on the west steps of city hall. that starts at 10 a.m.
