State Street Bridge over Chicago River downtown reopens: CDOT

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The State Street Bridge reopened Friday, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.

The bridge was shut down for emergency repairs last April.

It was originally scheduled to reopen mid-November, but was then pushed for additional steel repairs and "weather-related delays," CDOT said.

It reopened to vehicles and pedestrians about 6 a.m. Friday.

The rehab work on critical structural and operational components has now been completed. The bridge was built in 1949.

The Lake Street, Chicago-Halsted and Cortland bridges are also closed.

The State and Lake elevated CTA station, also a CDOT project, is closed, as well, until 2029. That construction is creating additional street closures in the area.
