CHICAGO (WLS) -- A judge ordered Jeron Tate to remain in jail until trial after he allegedly helped Alphanso Talley carry out an armed robbery at a Family Dollar store on the Northwest Side before Talley allegedly shot two Chicago police officers, one fatally, at Swedish Hospital on Saturday.

Prosecutors say Tate, of Maywood, already had an active parole violation warrant out for his arrest.

Chicago police arrested the 18-year-old in Englewood on Thursday for his alleged connection to an armed robbery in the Albany Park neighborhood's 3200-block of Lawrence Avenue last weekend.

Prosecutors accuse Tate of walking into the store with his alleged co-offender, Talley, while wearing masks as they robbed a 55-year-old cashier at gunpoint just after 8 a.m. Saturday.

Prosecutors say the two suspects allegedly broke that woman's nose and took her wallet and car keys and about $110 from the cash register. The money in that register had GPS tracking technology, which led police to track down surveillance of the two suspects fleeing the scene on scooters.

Prosecutors say Tate has a history of armed robbery and carjacking charges as a juvenile, which he was previously sentenced to 18 months for in the Juvenile Department of Corrections before ending up on parole and allegedly committing this latest crime.

He is now charged with armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, and unlawful restraint.

Prosecutors say he was not involved in the police shooting at Swedish Hospital that followed the armed robbery, as he ran away from the scene.

Officers took Talley to Swedish Hospital for observation after he said he swallowed five bags of narcotics, prosecutors said. There, he allegedly pulled out a gun and fired shots, killing CPD Officer John Bartholomew and critically injuring another officer.

Tate will be back in court on May 20.
