Victims of ICE, Border Patrol operations accuse federal agents of violence, breaking Illinois law

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Victims of federal immigration operations are accusing agents of violence and breaking Illinois law.

They spoke out Monday morning and announced reports filed with Chicago police.

Marimar Martinez, who was shot five times during a Border Patrol operation in Chicago, shared her account of what happened.

Martinez was initially charged, but those charges were dropped.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement Monday, "On October 4, Border Patrol law enforcement officers were ambushed by rioters that hit federal agents with their vehicles."

DHS went on to say the Border Patrol agent who shot Martinez was placed on administrative leave. DHS said the Department of Justice would answer any further questions on the case.

Other victims Monday also described what they say was violence and mistreatment.

The group calls for a full investigation and accountability for federal agents.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says every officer working in the field will have a body camera by the end of the month.
