WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- A teenage boy was hospitalized after being pulled from Lake Michigan in the north suburbs on Monday evening, fire officials said.
The Waukegan Fire Department responded to a report of a drowning on the lakefront in the harbor channel area around 5:30 p.m.
The teen's friends told first responders that they had been swimming in the channel, and they called for help after their friend did not make it out of the water.
Divers rescued the boy along the break wall near the bottom, fire officials said. He was transported to Vista East Medical Center in an unknown condition.
No other injuries were reported. Further information was not immediately available.
The Waukegan Fire Department reminded residents not to swim in areas that are not designated for swimming.
