Jose Abreu had a big reason to smile before stepping on the field to play for the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

Just 24 hours before, the first baseman from Cuba was at home in Miami enjoying some time-off with his 5-year-old son, Dariel, in the United States for the first time in his life."I couldn't say anything," Abreu said through a Sox interpreter about the encounter with his son. "I just started crying."

Abreu was separated from his son in 2013 when he defected from Cuba. In December, he returned to the island for the first time as part of an event organized by the MLB and he was able to see Dariel during his time in Cuba.

"I'm very happy to have my son with me here. I want to thank everybody who was involved in that process to help me and to help him to be with me right now. It was a long process, but finally we did it and we are together again," Abreu said.

The White Sox started on Tuesday a series in Kansas City against the Royals. But Abreu is already thinking on the next stop for your team, Miami. For the first time in his life, Dariel will see his father play in person in the MLB.

"He wants to see me play, but he's more excited to be with me," Abreu said.

After spending all of Monday with his son, Abreu expects more days like this in the near future. He said Dariel will stay in Cuba but a 5 years Visa to enter to the United States will help him and his son to enjoy time together.
