R Kelly channels Michael Jackson
R Kelly talks about his new album, and how he writes his songs.

CHICAGO -- R. Kelly's latest album "The Buffet" is due out in November. A video for his single "Backyard Party" premiered on RollingStone.com.

Kelly said he wrote more than 400 songs and had to cut it down for "The Buffet."

"It's the hardest thing in the world. To narrow down all those songs. But it has to be done," Kelly said. "I play them for some of my friends. And sometimes we'll even throw parties and put them on the big speakers. I got to clubs and give it to the DJ and just see how people move to it."

Writing a song can take five minutes or five days, Kelly said. When he writes songs for others, he said he hears their voices in his head. An example: Michael Jackson.

"Out of nowhere, his music, and what he should do, comes to me. And I put it on the track as if I were Michael. It's the craziest, weirdest thing. But I'll be in there acting just like Michael, singing just like Michael," Kelly said.
