Raising kids in the digital world

CHICAGO (WLS) -- No matter how much parents try to keep up with the latest apps and gadgets, many get left in the digital dust. The constantly changing technology can have parents worried about their kids getting addicted, detached, or distracted.

A new book is addressing these issues. It's called "Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World." The book offers concrete and practical advice on helping kids navigate friendship and identity issues that are common among new texters, gamers and social media users. Author, Devorah Heitner, PhD, says it's important to set boundaries and be open with your children. She joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News to talk about the best ways to navigate the digital world with your kids.
