A factory worker from northwest suburban Bartlett won $1 million in a Mega Millions drawing Friday, Illinois lottery officials announced.
Ron Ranallo says he often asks his father to buy him a Mega Millions Quick Pick ticket.
"My dad bought the ticket for me and then he checked the winning numbers on illinoislottery.com," Ranallo said. "When we realized I'd won, we were absolutely shocked."
His ticket matched the first five numbers of the Friday, May 16 Mega Millions Drawing, and lottery officials presented him with an oversized check Saturday, lotto officials said.
Ranallo says he plans to save his winnings and invest for retirement.
""This lottery win gives me peace of mind," he said.
The store that sold the winning ticket, Mr. Quik Ezz Food Mart at 980 S. Bartlett Road, will also receive a $10,000 bonus.
