GLENCOE, Ill. (WLS) -- Is the pressure just too much for Spike the corpse flower?
The rare plant is still on the verge of blooming out at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe.
His bloom has been delayed for several days and the caretaker says the weather is to blame.
"It's been pretty cloudy and overcast," the caretaker says. "And in its natural environment in Sumatra, they just don't have four or five days of cloudy weather. So we need a little push from the weather to help him get going here."
Once Spike does bloom, the garden will stay open until 2 a.m. to allow everyone to get a close-up look.
