CHICAGO (WLS) -- Before the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, the Flame of Hope is traveling across the country.

On Saturday, June 13, Special Olympics Illinois is hosting a community celebration at Navy Pier in Chicago to welcome the torch. The Flame of Hope traveled all the way from Athens, Greece and will continue its journey as part of a Unified Relay Across America on June 14.

Over the course of 46 days, in a hand-to-hand exchange, thousands of participants will run, walk or bike a segment of the relay in this team and individual fundraising event as it passes through all 50 states.

ABC 7 met with CEO of Special Olympics Illinois, Dave Breen, live from Navy Pier before the community celebration.
