The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left adductor strain.

The move is retroactive to April 2.

Jimenez, 27, left Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers following an at-bat in the sixth inning. He has missed the past three games.

The White Sox initially believed Jiménez could recover in time for their four-game series in Kansas City against theRoyals.

"He was going good, so there was an opportunity there," White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. "But there wasn't any progress. There comes a point where you've got to make a decision."

A .273 career hitter in 439 games with the White Sox, Jimenez is off to a slow start, hitting .182 (2-for-11) with just two singles.

Jimenez, who has faced a variety of injuries in his career and hasn't played more than 120 games since his rookie season in 2019, is expected to remain with the team, maintaining his current recovery program.

"We'll just slow him down and make sure he gets his seven days and just get him right," Grifol said. "We think that slowing this down and taking our time with it, there's a really good chance that we can be done with it. He'll continue to do his stuff, but not with the same urgency. He was getting after it yesterday because we were trying to get him on the field."

In corresponding moves, the White Sox called up outfielder Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Charlotte. Grossman, 34, signed a minor league contract with the White Sox in March and had two homers and five RBIs in three games with Charlotte.

He spent the 2023 season with the Texas Rangers and appeared in 115 games, hitting .238 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs. A career .244 hitter, he also has played with the Houston Astros (2013 to 2015), Minnesota Twins (2016 to 2018), Oakland Athletics (2019-20), Tigers (2021-22) and Atlanta Braves (2022).

The White Sox also designated right-handed pitcher Alex Speas for assignment to keep the 40-man roster at the limit.

Speas, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Rangers in October. He has thrown 2 scoreless innings with Charlotte this season.
