The family of a woman killed in a Fox River boat crash has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
Court papers say once police arrived, the suspect repeatedly apologized for killing his mother and was singing a religious song as he was taken into custody.
"During this viewing, their baby was wrapped tightly in a blanket with his head propped on top of his body in a manner such that those viewing him could not identify that he had been decapitated," according to the statement.
Investigators said Jared Dicus confessed to killing his 21-year-old bride with a kitchen knife at the home they shared on his parents' property.
"A portion of the body was dismembered, and the residence was covered in blood. Gruesome scene at best," the sheriff said.
"She was the nicest person," a neighbor said.
