Hunger Action Month: Call for volunteers amid growing need

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Local food banks are hoping to get more volunteers to step up in September, which is Hunger Action Month.

Food banks in Chicago, the suburbs, and northwest Indiana say they need volunteers the most.

They need help to evaluate, sort, repack and distribute food to thousands of people.

Northern Illinois Food Bank President and CEO Julie Yurko, Food Bank of Northwest Indiana CEO Victor Garcia and Greater Chicago Food Depository CEO Kate Maehr joined ABC7.
