Yorkville High School evacuated, 4 students hospitalized after Freon leak

YORKVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Yorkville school district officials said four students were hospitalized and Yorkville High School was evacuated due to a Freon leak in a rooftop air conditioner Wednesday.

Officials said just before 2 p.m. people in the school noticed a foggy haze in two classrooms. The Bristol Kendall Fire Department responded and evacuated the school for about 20 minutes before declaring it safe for students and staff to go back inside.

Fifty students and two staff were evaluated at the scene and four students were taken for further treatment. Three students were taken to Rush Copley Hospital in good condition, and the fourth was taken to Sandwich Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

School dismissed at its normal time of 2:30 p.m.
