CDC study: US life expectancy at all-time high

December 16, 2009 A new study from the CDC finds the average life expectancy in the US has reached almost 78 years. That's a record high.

Women can expect to live to 80 years on average, while men to just over 75.

Fewer deaths from heart disease, stroke and cancer are said to be driving the trend.

Even though Americans can expect to live longer than their parents, life expectancy in the US is still lower than in many other industrialized countries.
