Terrence Goggin withdraws from race amid petition challenge; Republican was believed to be running against Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan

Republican candidate Terrence Goggin withdrew from the race Thursday amid a state GOP challenge of his petition signatures.

Specifically, the Illinois Republican Party alleges it was Madigan operatives circulating the petitions, which they say included fraudulent signatures.

"Terence Goggin has run four times before, yet we have never met him," said Chris Cleveland, Chicago Republican Party. "We have never spoken to him there are no known photos of him."

A Chicago Board of Elections hearing officer had subpoenaed the petition circulators who were expected to testify before Goggin's withdrawal.

House Speaker Madigan did not return Eyewitness News calls for comment.
