Aurora man pleads guilty to conspiring to plan attack for ISIL

An Aurora man pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to provide material support to Islamic State terrorists, or ISIL.

Jonas Edmonds admitted to a federal judge that he planned to attack a U.S. military facility in northern Illinois. The ABC7 I-Team reported in March that Edmonds was arrested after dropping off his cousin and co-defendant, Hasan Edmonds, at Chicago Midway Airport.

Hasan planned to travel overseas to wage violence on behalf of ISIL. FBI agents caught up with Jonas Edmonds as he picked up a National Guard uniform at his cousin's home. Jonas planned to wear the uniform during the attack that he hoped would kill as many as 150 soldiers.

"His family is very happy to get this behind him and so is he, and we'll try to move this along a fast as possible. He is not cooperating," said James Graham, Jonas Edmond's attorney.

Edmonds faces 21 years in prison. His cousin, Hasan, who was arrested before boarding a plane to Egypt, is scheduled to plead guilty Monday.
