CHICAGO (WLS) -- The wife of a CEO who was shot at work will temporarily take over the reins of the company.

A disgruntled employee shot and critically wounded Steven LaVoie in the Loop before shooting himself last Thursday.

LaVoie's wife, Jody, is stepping in for her husband at his company ArrowStream. She will serve as acting CEO until an interim CEO can take over during Steven LaVoie's recovery

A statement on the company's website also says contrary to earlier reports, Arrowstream has not been reducing its workforce or downsizing in any way.

The LaVoie family, of La Grange, says Steven is showing small signs of improvement. He is in critical but stable condition.

LaVoie was shot twice by a longtime employee at the ArrowStream office in Chicago's Loop. Gunman Tony DeFrances, who had recently been demoted, fatally shot himself, police said.

"We are celebrating each small milestone. Jody and the girls are so thankful for the outpouring of support and well wishes for Steve's recovery," was posted on the CaringBridge website set up by his family to update LaVoie's condition.

Near La Grange, red ribbons were tied on trees in support.
