2 women killed, 1 critically injured in Lake County crash: sheriff's office

FREMONT TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) -- Two women died and a third was critically injured in a crash in the north suburbs Wednesday morning, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.

Lake County sheriff's deputies responded about 8 a.m. to Fairfield and Chardon roads in Fremont Township for a traffic crash with injuries.

Police found that a Nissan and a dump truck had collided, causing major damage to both vehicles.

A 44-year-old Round Lake man was driving the 2007 Mack dump truck north on Fairfield, approaching Chardon, when a 48-year-old Waukegan woman driving a 2007 Nissan Versa was traveling west on Chardon, police said.

The sheriff's office said the Nissan had a stop sign, but the truck did not.

The Nissan allegedly entered the intersection in front of the truck.

The truck hit the Nissan's driver's side, causing the truck to roll over, spilling loose concrete, police said.

The Nissan's driver was pronounced dead on the scene. A 55-year-old Round Lake Beach woman in the back seat of the Nissan also died on the scene.

A 45-year-old Round Lake Beach woman, who was in the front seat of the Nissan, was critically injured.

The deceased individuals were not immediately identified.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is investigating.
