CHICAGO (WLS) -- It appears the 911 tax on Chicago landline and cell phones is going up.

Governor Pat Quinn signed a measure into law allowing the city council to raise the monthly fee by $1.40, bringing the tax to $3.90.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the money is needed to cover the cost of running the city's office of emergency management and communications.
